Are your kids into competitive dance?  Well I have 4 girls and all of them are in competitive dance.  For me I am not into makeup and fancy hair but with 4 dancers I have been thrown right into it.  I have had to learn on the fly as my kids have grown up.  I have learned what is important to have in your makeup kit to survive those long comp weekends.

Included in this post are going to be the tools needed in your makeup kit rather than the makeup itself.

Makeup Case: https://amzn.to/3IDLmOl

First and foremost you need a makeup case.  Personally I find the hard sided cases work best.  Our makeup case has definitely taken a tumble down the stairs once or twice.  This one is really good because there are so many compartments for everything that you need for hair and makeup.  Sometimes table space is tight in the dressing rooms so having one that is free standing is handy in the busy dressing room.

If you would rather a smaller makeup case that can fit on the table in the dressing room this one works great https://amzn.to/481nxKJ.

Makeup Brushes: https://amzn.to/4gLHyqL

Depending on your studios makeup preferences you may need these for many different items.  Liquid blush, concealer, foundation, eye shadow etc.  It is important to have them handy as you never know when you might need them.  You don’t need a huge package of them but the variety of sizes have come in handy for me at many competitions.

Beauty Blenders: https://amzn.to/42iiEt3

These go along with your makeup brushes to make sure that you have with you.  The amount you use them will depend on your studios makeup preferences but they are better to have than not at all.  This package has a variety of different sponges that might come in handy for the busy comp days.

Makeup Remover: https://amzn.to/46GXK8h

These wipes are really handy to have if you need to quickly fix a makeup mistake or taking everything off at the end of the day.  We have used many different kinds and these ones are gentle on the skin.  They will work if you have red lipstick on a costume too- sadly I have had to deal with that many times.  It is also a good idea to keep cotton swabs and a bottle of micellar water https://amzn.to/4818FMk.

Hair Wax: https://amzn.to/4mA9XBv

This works really well for the ‘fly away’ hairs that annoy you when trying to make hair look perfect.  Though I must admit it doesn’t have the nicest smell it really works well.  One of my daughters decided to cut her own hair last season so it caused a hair disaster when trying to get it tied back.  But this stuff held down all those short strands no problem.  The little combs it comes with are super helpful too!

Mirror: https://amzn.to/42b5ga8

Having a mirror that can be easily set up in the dressing room is a must.  This mirror is great because it has built in lights which comes in so handy for dressing rooms that don’t have good lighting.  These can be easily tossed into your dance bag so that you have it to make sure your dancers makeup is exactly how they want it.  My younger dancers like to do their own lipstick so this mini mirror works good for them as they learn to do their own makeup https://amzn.to/4gLI347.

As of mom of 4 competitive dancers and doing this for the last 10 years I am confident ensuring you add these to your kit your comp days will run smoother.  To check out more posts about the Dance Mom Life be sure to check out Dance Mom Blog Archives – Together We Can Travel
