A family prepares for a joyful picnic outing in a sunny park with a black car, reflecting happiness and bonding.

When my second daughter was about 10 months old she started getting sick in the car.  At first we thought she was getting a stomach bug but it kept happening day after day when we would go for a car ride.  After some investigating we realized that it was car sickness.  Quickly we had to make a plan to survive being in the car without having to shampoo the car seat every day!

Below are the must haves to survive having a child dealing with car sickness

Extra Large Bibs: https://amzn.to/46Ucsdb

These come in so handy because one of the most awful parts of a child that gets car sick is the car seat straps.  They are so hard to clean around the harness and the buckles.  These bibs go on top of the harness so that nothing gets on the straps.  It took me a few years to try these but once I did they were a life saver.

Pads for the Seat: https://amzn.to/46oTMCq

Again this one I found after many times of having to scrub the seat.  These are disposable and can be easily thrown away.  Simply cut a hole where the car seat buckle goes and you have a waterproof pad in case anyone gets sick.  These work great if anyone has an accident in the car during toilet training too.

Ziplock Bags: https://amzn.to/4nUv0jr

I think its important to have many different items on hand when you have a kid that gets car sick.  If you child is old enough to hold onto their own bucket then try a ziploc bag.  The opening is large enough for kids and the great thing about these is you can zip it to close.  We have had situations where were were on an interstate and couldn’t pull over.  Once these are closed it holds in the smell too.

Containers with Lids: https://amzn.to/4nj0DmF

If you don’t have the ziploc bags these work great too.  They will do the same trick and being able to put the lid on it is really helpful.  We actually put the ziploc bag inside this container and then put the lid on top.

Pressure bracelets:  https://amzn.to/46lo0Gk

These bracelets have seemed to be helpful for my daughter.  Once your child is old enough they can easily put this on themselves.

Other thoughts:

My daughter is old enough now to know when she is feeling unwell and will try to go to sleep.  It is important to dress your child in light layers to not overheat them.  If they start feeling unwell be sure to put the window down for some fresh air.
