If you are planning a cruise out of one of Florida’s many cruise ports- Freedom of the Seas is a great family friendly option. Freedom of the Seas is the first ship in the same name class of ships “Freedom Class”. This ship has a capacity of nearly 5000 passengers which is a great sized ship for families. The ship boasts 15 decks of family fun. Though it may not be as big as Royal’s newest ships there is still plenty to do on Freedom. Some families even prefer the less busy atmosphere than the larger ships.
We have sailed on the Freedom class a few times and just love it. Independence of the Seas, a sister to Freedom is one of our top favorite ships! To check out pricing on these ships check out https://tripadvisor.tpk.ro/LX09tkjZ.
Family Fun
As mentioned above, Freedom does not have all of the bells and whistles that you will find on Oasis or Icon class ships but you and your family will not be bored! The kids club Adventure Ocean are available on these ships and kids have a blast in these kids club. Freedom of the Seas offers a lot of family friendly activities put on by the Adventure Ocean Staff as well.
On Freedom of the Seas you will find Rock Climbing, Mini Golf and even Ice Skating at Studio B. The pool deck will give your kids hours of fun from the pools to the ever popular Splashaway Bay and you can race down the twin water slides ‘The Perfect Storm’. We find so many areas on this ship to relax in the sun. Our favorite is the deck above the pool deck- we always find a quiet corner. Our family personally has never had any issues finding a chair on the pool deck.
Parents and kids can try their skills at the ever famous Flow Rider- surf simulator. Don’t forget your running shoes so that you can enjoy an epic game of laser tag with the whole family.
Dining
You will certainly not go hungry on this ship. There are plenty of dining options on this ship. Restaurants that are included with your fare are:
- Main Dining Room

- Sorrentos Pizza
- El Loco Fresh- on the pool deck
- Cafe Promenade
- Windjammer Buffet
- Room Service (there may be a surcharge for ordering- though breakfast is complimentary)
Dining options to enjoy at an added cost include:
- Giovanni’s Italian Kitchen
- Izumi Hibachi & Sushi
- Chops Grille
- Chef’s Table
Our family has been on many Royal Caribbean cruises and to this point we have never eaten at an added cost restaurant. We truly enjoy all of the complimentary dining options. Though we will likely give one of them a try sometime!
Family Travel Tips
Royal Caribbean Ships offer many different sizes of rooms to suit every family’s needs and Freedom is no different. There are large enough rooms to hold larger families including suite selections that can hold extra large families.
Our family of 6 often gets adjoining rooms. Another option that we choose is getting one balcony and one interior across the hall from one another so that we are all close. If you are choosing rooms that are not connecting then an adult will have to be listed in each of the rooms.
Room attendants on Royal are really helpful. Be sure to reach out to them if there is anything that your room is missing and they will help you out!
